Making Your First Call
Your first call is the hardest — after that, it gets easier with every one. Let's walk through exactly what happens.
Before You Dial
Take a breath. Read through the script once. Remember: you're just having a conversation with another human being. The script is a guide, not a performance.
On your screen you'll see:
• The voter's name and basic info
• The script with highlighted talking points
• Response buttons for recording the outcome
The pre-call screen shows voter details before you connect
The Call Flow
• Tap "Call" — the dialer connects you
• Wait for an answer — you'll hear ringing, then either a person or voicemail
• If someone answers — follow the script, have the conversation, record the response
• If voicemail — leave a brief message or skip, depending on the campaign's instructions
• Record the result — tap the appropriate response button
• Move to next call — the system loads the next voter automatically
During an active call, the script and voter info are visible together
Using the Script
The script typically has these parts:
• Intro — "Hi, is this [Name]? My name is [You], and I'm a volunteer with [Campaign]."
• Purpose — "I'm calling today to talk about [Issue/Election]."
• Question — "Have you had a chance to think about who you're supporting?"
• Talking points — key messages if they're interested
• Close — "Thanks so much for your time. Have a great day!"
Feel free to put it in your own words. Natural is better than perfect.
Tap the matching response button to record the outcome of each call
Handling Voicemail
You'll hit a lot of voicemails. The campaign may want you to:
• Leave a message — "Hi [Name], this is [You] volunteering with [Campaign]. We'd love to chat about the upcoming election. Feel free to call back at [number]. Thanks!"
• Skip and move on — some campaigns prefer no voicemail
Check the shift instructions for which approach to use.
When you reach voicemail, the suggested message appears on screen
Common Responses
"Wrong number" — mark it and move on. "Not interested" — thank them and move on. "Tell me more" — that's your cue to share talking points. Every response is useful data.
