Your First Event
Your first volunteer event can feel intimidating — but it doesn't have to be. This guide walks you through finding something that fits, signing up, and showing up with confidence.
Finding Events Near You
From your ActionGrid dashboard, tap Events in the navigation. You'll see a list of upcoming events sorted by distance. You can also:
• Use the map view to see events on a map
• Filter by cause (housing, climate, healthcare, etc.)
• Filter by type (canvass, phone bank, rally, fundraiser)
• Search by keyword or campaign name
The Events page — browse what's happening near you
Picking the Right Event
Not sure what to choose? Here are some tips for first-timers:
• Phone banks are great if you're a bit shy — you can do them from home
• Canvasses are perfect if you like being outside and talking to people
• Rallies and community events are low-pressure and fun
• Look for events labeled "Beginner Friendly" — they'll have extra training

What to Expect
Most events start with a quick briefing where an organizer explains what you'll be doing. You'll get any materials you need (scripts, walk lists, etc.) and usually pair up with someone experienced. Nobody expects you to know everything on day one.
What to Bring
• Your phone (charged!)
• Comfortable shoes if you're canvassing
• Water and a snack
• A positive attitude — seriously, that's the most important thing
