Following Scripts & Templates

Scripts make text banking easy — they give you the right words for every situation. Here's how to use them effectively while still sounding like a real person.

How Scripts Work

When you start a text bank shift, you'll see:

• The initial message — this is the first text sent to each contact. It's pre-written by the campaign.

• Reply scripts — suggested responses for common replies like "Yes," "No," "Who is this?", "Stop," etc.

• Talking points — key facts and messages if someone wants more information.

Sending the Initial Message

The initial message is usually something like:

"Hi [Name], this is [You] with [Campaign]. We're reaching out to voters in [Area] about the upcoming election. Can we count on your support for [Candidate]?"

The [brackets] are filled in automatically. You just tap Send for each contact.

Personalization

Some campaigns allow you to add a personal touch to the initial message. If you can, add something like "Hope you're having a great afternoon!" It makes a big difference in response rates.

Personalization options let you add a human touch to each message

Responding to Replies

When people text back, you'll see suggested responses. Common scenarios:

• "Yes" / "I support them" — thank them, ask if they have a plan to vote, mark as supportive

• "No" / "Not interested" — thank them for their time, mark the response, move on

• "Tell me more" — use the talking points to share key information

• "Who is this?" — re-introduce yourself and the campaign

• "Stop" / "Remove me" — immediately mark as opt-out (the system handles this automatically)

• "Wrong number" — apologize and mark accordingly

Reply templates give you ready-made responses for common situations

When to Go Off-Script

Scripts are guides, not rules. It's okay to go off-script when:

• Someone asks a specific question the script doesn't cover

• You want to share a personal reason why you volunteer

• The conversation naturally evolves into a real exchange

Just stay on-message with the campaign's core talking points and be respectful.

Stay On-Message

Don't make promises the campaign hasn't authorized, share unverified information, or debate aggressively. If you're unsure, stick to the script or flag the conversation for the organizer.

Flag a conversation when you need organizer help or encounter something unusual
